VIDEO/TOUR: Bluejuice – “On My Own”

Bluejuice

Bluejuice are renowned for having cool video ideas. Anyone who didn’t find “Act Yr Age” hilarious should probably chill out a bit, and “Vitriol” will forever be a stellar example of doing budget film-clips right.

“On My Own” continues that tradition. It’s a karaoke video that looks like it was ripped from an old VHS, and they really nail the cheesy aesthetic. The song isn’t bad either. Check it out below.

Bluejuice are also hitting the road with The Cairos and Loon Lake (except in Brisbane). Check out the details!

LEAK!: Johnny Foreigner – Johnny Foreigner Vs Everything

Johnny Foreigner Vs Everything

WONDERING WHY THERE’S A LEAK HERE? Well it’s not real. Check out this to find out what I joined in on.

I’m not normally in the habit of posting leaks at On The Tune, but today is a pretty special day.

Johnny Foreigner’s new album has leaked ahead of it’s November release, and I figured I may as well share it with you. You’re going to just get it somewhere else – may as well share the love, right?

It’s an album full of frenzied guitar jams, and slow-crawl acoustic numbers. If you like JoFo already, this’ll be right up your alley – this is basically the culmination of all of the work and effort they’ve put into past releases, and it shows. Pretty strong contender for Album of the Year if you ask me, provided Los Campesinos! don’t take the cake. 2011 is shaping up pretty nicely.

Artist: Johnny Foreigner
Album: Johnny Foreigner Vs Everything
Size: 64.2 Mb.

Note: The track list is going off the file names, as tracks hadn’t been tagged properly.

Don’t forget to buy stuff from these guys too. Support them, go to shows, buy merch, etc. They’re brilliant artists.

VIDEO: Jumping Ships – “Talisman”

Jumping Ships

Alcopop are a brilliant label. C’mon – Johnny Foreigner, Screaming Maldini, Stagecoach – what more do you need? Nothing, right? I know, they’re so good. Well lucky you, because you’ve got more! Jumping Ships are a part of that extensive list of “more”, and boy have they got a huge sound.

It’s truly a crime that their latest clip for song “Talisman” has so few views (505 at current count). Like a parent that’s caught you coming home at 4 in the morning, the band explode at the most unexpected moments, and the surprising way that the drums and guitars unconventionally weave together in the final moments will make the song latch onto the awesome-sector of your brain.

You should still listen though! It’s not painful at all. You can grab a free download of “Talisman” at their BandCamp page over here!

BRAND NEW: Bluejuice – “Cheap Trix”

Bluejuice

Everyone likes music with a bit of bite. Music that leans to the side and says “Well I’m a little bit different, but damn can you still dance to me!”. Well Bluejuice have delivered just that with the premiere of new track “Cheap Trix”! It’s taken from their third album Company, which is to be released on the 28th of October. Listening to it feels like you’ve wandered into some by-gone era’s nightclub, but it’s here that Bluejuice prove that they’ve nailed the art of creating singalong potential – this is going to be a huge one live!

“Cheap Trix” is available for four weeks, starting today, and you can download it from their Facebook page over here.

TOUR: Gyroscope

Gyroscope have just announced the Choose Your Own Adventure tour! It’s going to be their only headline tour for 2011, and will see them hit the road through October and November to play a handful of dates. Sydney and Adelaide punters are especially lucky, as the band have managed to make the shows there all ages.

But more interestingly, this is a tour where you (yes, you!) will choose the setlist! By the democratic process of a Facebook vote, fans will be able to choose which songs Gyroscope practice and take out on the road with them.

Keen to vote? Run over here and like their Facebook page so that you can vote when it’s open.

TOUR: Buckley Ward

Melbournian indie-popsters Buckley Ward have just returned from a year of working on their sophomore album, and with a new line up as well! They’ve just announced a couple of shows around the country in support of their latest single, “So Pretend”.

Thursday 8 September – Oh Hello, Brisbane, QLD (free show)
Friday 9 September – Lightspace, Brisbane, QLD
Saturday 10 September – FBi Social, Sydney, NSW supporting Winter People
Saturday 24 September – Melbourne, Yah Yahs with I, A Man

Take a listen to “So Pretend” below. Full of lush pop harmonies, they manage to craft this relaxing atmosphere around beautiful guitar melodies. Well worth checking out. You can download it for free over here too.

VIDEO: Jebediah – “Control”

How this video has so few views, especially after the huge popularity of “She’s Like A Comet”, really astounds me. It’s not a brand new video, but I feel obliged to share it in the hope that a few more people give it a listen. It’s a brilliant song and it deserves a bit more recognition.

Jebediah really manage to balance out the racing rock and poppy bites in this one, and Kevin Mitchell’s voice can change to suit accordingly. They’ve been around for quite a while, and I think they’ve well and truly earnt their place as one of Australia’s best modern rock bands that can consistently deliver good music.

VIDEO: The National – “Exile Vilify”

The National recently held a competition with Valve, the makers of popular puzzle game Portal 2, asking people to make a video clip for their song “Exile Vilify”. “Exile Vilify” was included in the game, and shows that despite High Violet giving The National a huge boost in popularity, they aren’t losing their dark and brooding sound, or their amazing song-writing abilities. The winner of the contest will be receiving a rather nice guitar, signed by the band, and a bunch of other Valve goodies.

Valve made sure to point out that it was very difficult to pick a winner, but after much deliberation and consultation with the band, we now have an official video for the song.

Check out the winning video (directed by C.F. Meister):

You can also see the video that got 1.00000000001th place here, and second place here.

BRAND NEW/TOUR: Drawn From Bees – “Of Walls and Teeth”

Brisbane rockers Drawn From Bees have only just released their latest single “Of Walls and Teeth”, and you can take a listen to it right over here! It’s the first single from the bands sophomore album, The May King and His Paper Crown, which is set for release in 2012. Drawn From Bees bring together some fairly conventional guitar sounds on this single (the solos are neat though), but it’s the cool use of vocal melodies and harmonies that really make it stand out.

You can pre-order the single on iTunes from the 12th of August, and it’s officially available on the 26th.

Lately the band have toured the US (even got in a few shows at SXSW!), and they’ve just announced a set of Australian dates throughout October.

Check them out on tour if you get a chance.

Sat 1 Oct – Yah Yahs, Fitzroy
Sat 8 Oct – Masquerade Ball @ The Zoo, Fortitude Valley
Sun 9 Oct – Caloundra Music Festival, Caloundra
Sat 15 Oct – Oxford Art Factory Gallery Bar, Sydney
Fri 21 Oct – The Spotted Cow, Toowoomba
Sat 22 Oct – Restless @ The Loft, Gold Coast
Wed 26 Oct – Nanna Night @ Vinyl Bar, West End
Sat 29 Oct – The Railway Club, Darwin

Just to whet your appetite with another song of theirs (this is one of my favourites), here’s a great video from the band.
