NEWS/BRAND NEW: Ash and We Are Scientists collaborate for charity

Ash and We Are Scientists recently covered a song called “Washington Parks” by Happy Monster (aka Robert Manning), a long time sufferer of Multiple Sclerosis. The collaboration was organised by Robert himself as part of an ongoing project, with the intention of raising awareness about MS, and raising funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, with all proceeds from sales going to them.

You can read Robert’s full post on the cover over here. It’s amazing to see so many people jumping on board this great cause.

Interestingly, as the collaboration is in stereo, each band gets one side: you can hear Ash through the left channel, and We Are Scientists through the right channel.

You can buy the track over here, and watch the video below.

BRAND NEW: Death Cab For Cutie – “You Are A Tourist (Phatchance Hip Hop Remix)”

You might have heard about Death Cab for Cutie’s new track “You Are A Tourist”. They did a film clip for it which was broadcast live on the internet (the first ever, I believe). It was a pretty impressive effort.

Well, Aussie hip-hop artist Phatchance recently stayed up into the wee hours of the morning to remix it. Throwing some amazing rhymes in-between Ben Gibbard’s lyrics, Chance manages to preserve the tone and themes of the original while putting a new spin on the song. The result? A remix that actually works incredibly well. As much as I love Death Cab, I think I find it a bit more interesting than the original. Sometimes Death Cab seem to have those spaces in songs where they just lose my attention a little bit, but this remix seems to take care of that altogether.

Take a listen below, download it, and share it around. It’s brilliant.

When SoundCloud runs out of downloads (which I’ve heard it will), you can grab the mp3 here.

If you like your music a bit less lossy, you can grab the wav here.

BRAND NEW: We Are Scientists and Gorillaz songs

Talk about making my day!

I get home after a long week at school to be pleasantly surprised by an excellent new WAS song, and a new Gorillaz song which absolutely stomps all over Stylo, in my opinion.

“Rules Don’t Stop”

“Superfast Jellyfish”

Might review them properly later, but suffice to say I think they’re both very good.

NEWS: We Are Scientists set single release date.

The 5th of April. New single “Rules” will be released from their new album “Barbara” (due out June).

I can’t wait. We Are Scientists hooked me with a few singles from their album “With Love and Squalor”, which is full of typical, yet brilliant indie-rock riffs and melodies. Refining their style with “Brain Thrust Mastery”, where they seemed to mature and branch out in their own direction whilst retaining the infectiousness inherent in their music, I can’t wait for this new album to drop.

BRAND NEW: Radiohead – “These Are My Twisted Words”

Dead Air Space, Radiohead’s blog and website has just recently confirmed what a lot of people thought. That "These Are My Twisted Words" is in fact a real song they’d finished recording, not some elaborate hoax.

Thank goodness, it’d leave a lot of fans (like myself) feeling rather embarassed for getting worked up and excited if it was fake.

They are also, giving it away for free! If you haven’t checked it out yet, do so!

Everyone was hoping for an EP to be released on the 17th, but patience is a virtue. I’d rather they created the same brilliant work over them rushing it. But yeah, the build up to the 17th is over. It’s a real song. And it’s free to download.

However I always find myself enjoying whole albums/EP’s more than just a single song by them. The whole works just seem to have so much atmosphere and feeling. Though that said I can appreciate the work in a single song and how it sounds. Surprisingly, I’m not giving it a completely biased 10 like I thought I would.

I don’t really have any constructive criticism and I’m sure it’ll grow on me to the point of wanting to give it a 10 in the future, but after a few listens it just doesn’t seem like a classic single. Maybe in the form of an EP it’ll fit in more and sound more complete.

Score: 6/10

BRAND NEW: Radiohead – “These Are My Twisted Word” (Unconfirmed)

I know I just made a Radiohead related post, but… but, this is absolutely awesome news.

A song hit the internet today under the title of “These Are My Twisted Words”. It sounds genuine. 100% authentic.

Check out the post on AtEase (the fan forum) that sparked it all. Also check out the cryptic ASCII art and messages that came with it here. And there’s a release date in the .pdf for, what could be an EP. The 17th of August.

Speculation is pointing towards either the song for the New Moon soundtrack Thom was going to do something for (though I highly doubt it, I was under the impression that would be a solo effort), or, something from a new EP! Or maybe just a single. BUT! No one knows. So, let’s just be happy. Very happy!

Edit: Download is up on Stereogum at the moment. If it’s gone there’s plenty of other places to find it.

Edit2: Oh, and by the way, it sounds brilliant too.
