BRAND NEW: Motion City Soundtrack – "Her Words Destroyed My Planet"

Produced by Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 fame, the new record from pop-punk band Motion City Soundtrack, "My Dinosaur Life", is to be released on January the 19th.  The whole album is currently available for streaming on their MySpace page, but I’ll be reviewing the track "Her Words Destroyed My Planet" today.

If you go into this track expecting Motion City Soundtrack to reinvent the metaphorical pop-punk "wheel", you’ll be sorely disappointed. Even their "new style" doesn’t seem that much different to the work on "Even If It Kills Me", albeit the lack of dominating synthesizers, which I must say on the whole is an improvement. Though they can be used to good effect, I found them to get on my nerves more often than not. But I digress. Despite the fact "Her Words…" isn’t anything revolutionary, it’s not a bad effort for what they’re trying to do.

From what I’d read about Hoppus working with the band, I had a lot of hope for a more refined sound and maybe something a bit more outside their comfort zone. I guess maybe it is, but to me it just seems like a small step for the band when I was hoping for something a bit more ambitious. However this is just one track from a whole album, it could very likely be a bad indicator on which to judge the remaining tracks, both stylistically and in terms of quality. Time will tell. Strong fans of the band will no doubt love this track, and it may introduce some new people to the band. But for me, I’m currently doubting any longevity I had previously hoped for.

BRAND NEW: Radiohead – “These Are My Twisted Words”

Dead Air Space, Radiohead’s blog and website has just recently confirmed what a lot of people thought. That "These Are My Twisted Words" is in fact a real song they’d finished recording, not some elaborate hoax.

Thank goodness, it’d leave a lot of fans (like myself) feeling rather embarassed for getting worked up and excited if it was fake.

They are also, giving it away for free! If you haven’t checked it out yet, do so!

Everyone was hoping for an EP to be released on the 17th, but patience is a virtue. I’d rather they created the same brilliant work over them rushing it. But yeah, the build up to the 17th is over. It’s a real song. And it’s free to download.

However I always find myself enjoying whole albums/EP’s more than just a single song by them. The whole works just seem to have so much atmosphere and feeling. Though that said I can appreciate the work in a single song and how it sounds. Surprisingly, I’m not giving it a completely biased 10 like I thought I would.

I don’t really have any constructive criticism and I’m sure it’ll grow on me to the point of wanting to give it a 10 in the future, but after a few listens it just doesn’t seem like a classic single. Maybe in the form of an EP it’ll fit in more and sound more complete.

BRAND NEW: Radiohead – “These Are My Twisted Word” (Unconfirmed)

I know I just made a Radiohead related post, but… but, this is absolutely awesome news.

A song hit the internet today under the title of “These Are My Twisted Words”. It sounds genuine. 100% authentic.

Check out the post on AtEase (the fan forum) that sparked it all. Also check out the cryptic ASCII art and messages that came with it here. And there’s a release date in the .pdf for, what could be an EP. The 17th of August.

Speculation is pointing towards either the song for the New Moon soundtrack Thom was going to do something for (though I highly doubt it, I was under the impression that would be a solo effort), or, something from a new EP! Or maybe just a single. BUT! No one knows. So, let’s just be happy. Very happy!

Edit: Download is up on Stereogum at the moment. If it’s gone there’s plenty of other places to find it.

Edit2: Oh, and by the way, it sounds brilliant too.
